Alina Kopytsia (b. 1983, Poliske, Kyiv region, Ukraine) is a Zurich-based Swiss-Ukrainian artist whose work primary focuses on her textile heritage and conceptual explorations of mythology, gender, and art history.

Raised in a family deeply rooted in the textile industry, Kopytsia’s early exposure to fabrics, ribbons, and sewing machines continues profoundly influence her practice. The artist transforms traditional materials, embroidery, fabric, thread and porcelain into a contemporary language that challenges the dominant narratives in art history.

Kopytsia graduated in 2006 from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute,” specializing in book graphics, and later earned both her BFA (2020) and MFA (2023) from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Her interdisciplinary approach merges craft and fine art, creating works that invite reflection on identity, power, and desire.

Kopytsia’s work has been exhibited internationally, with solo and group exhibitions across Europe, including Plains of Ambiguity at Ruettimann Contemporary in Zurich, Kunst für diese Stadt, Helmhaus in Zurich, Three new positions at Galerie Peter Kilchmann in Zurich, The Turn at Schcherbenko Art Centre in Kyiv, and solo presentations in Palermo and Hamburg. In 2024, she was awarded the Art’n Fiber® Residency Fellowship in Sweden, where she also led a workshop on “textile storytelling.” Her work is part of several private and public collections, including the public Stadt Zürich Collection.
